Hexham GC
The GSGB’s first meeting of the year took place on the 22nd/23rd May at the Northumberland GC and Hexham GC. Torrential rain greeted our members on the morning of the first day which rendered the course unplayable. Even with Northumberland’s quick draining greens and fairways it was not possible to get the competition underway and the Course Manager had no alternative but to close the course. Dinner went ahead as usual in the evening and our Chairman Linda Hill welcomed our 56 members, 8 of whom were attending for the first time. Most spent the afternoon visiting local sites around Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham. The second morning was rather cold but thankfully dry by the time we got under way. Hexham had dried out very well under foot and it was only the water lying in bunkers that reminded us of the previous day’s monsoon like conditions. Everyone enjoyed the picturesque parkland course which will provide an enjoyable test for the English Senior Amateur Championship in two weeks time. A number of good scores were recorded in both the ladies and men’s competition including five two’s.

Northumberland & Hexham 2014

The Sir Aynsley Bridgland FoundersTrophies were won by Bridget Meredith with 36 points followed by Denise Parker with 33 and for the men, David Archibald with 37 points followed by John Palmer with 36. John actually registered 38 points but as he was competing on his home course he suffered the usual two shot penalty. All prize winners are listed below. Chairman Linda Hill handed over to Mr Iain Crawford, the Hexham Club Captain who spoke very well before presenting the prizes.

The next meeting will take place over two of Hampshire’s finest courses.

On June 25th/26th we visit Blackmoor GC and Liphook GC.
