Foxhills AGM Meeting Report

posted 1 Aug 2014, 05:28 by Paul Collier   [ updated 6 Apr 2015, 04:17 ]
Foxhills, The Manor House
The Golf Society of Great Britain returned to Foxhills, Surrey on 22nd/23rd July for the 2014 AGM Meeting. The attendance was much improved on the previous year with ninety four members once again enjoying wonderful weather for the duration of their stay. The outdoor pool was unsurprisingly very popular as many of the ladies decided to soak up the sun before and after golf. Unfortunately for the men, the ladies professional tennis event did not coincide with our visit this time around. Both golf courses were in good condition with excellent greens and were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

The accommodation at the Hotel is of the highest order with good quality food and an attractive terrace area overlooking the 18th green which was an ideal location for the Pimms evening before Dinner on Wednesday.

Foxhills is most certainly an impressive venue and I’m sure that the Society will be returning soon.

Our long standing President Jim Hunter handed over the reins to past Chairman Nigel Dickson after five years at the helm. Jim has been a stalwart of the Society for many years, serving as Treasurer, Chairman and President in his time as well as organizing numerous tours. Jim was presented with a book and engraved decanter to mark his time in office. Jim’s wife Chris and Margaret Davey who has served six years on the Committee were both presented with flowers. Chairman Linda Hill presented the prizes, all winners are listed below.

The Handicap Cups for the best two day aggregate scores were won by David Archibald (East Herts) with 72 points and Kathryn Archibald (East Herts) 65 points. The Archibalds also claimed the Enjoy Golf Together Trophy by having the best husband and wife aggregate score over the two days. It looks as if everyone will need to raise their game to stop David and Kathryn who are having a great season so far. As well as the usual prizes there was a “beat the pro” competition on the Par 3 11th hole (Longcross) on which 7 ladies and 5 gents managed to get inside the Pro and win a bottle of wine. The winners were Linda Hill, Heather Williams, Jackie Borrett, Vicki Moss, Vanessa Adams, Kathryn Archibald, Jenny Davies, Robert Gardner, Michael Bullas, David Archibald, John Fulton and John Burrows.
