The GSGB September Meeting was played at Edgbaston and Blackwell, two fine parkland courses situated in Birmingham and North Worcestershire. Seventy members took part and other than a brief shower at Blackwell, enjoyed good weather on both days.
Both courses were well conditioned and had tricky sloping greens to contend with which certainly tested everyone’s putting stroke and led to a number of three and four putts. Even with the added difficulty, seventeen twos were recorded over the two days.
At Dinner we were joined by the Ladies Captain Julie Ward and her husband Michael. GSGB Chairman Linda Hill presented Julie with a £500 donation towards the club junior section as well as a shield to commemorate Edgbaston becoming a Participating Club. The men’s Barlow Seniors Trophy was won by David Storer from Alwoodley with 68 points and the runner-up was Richard Wadkin from Sand Moor with 66 points. The ladies Trophy was won by Clare Fulton from Woburn who scored 66 points and successfully defended her 2013 title. Sue Batchelor, also from Woburn, scored 71 points but had to settle for the runner-up spot as she was too young to be eligible for the main prize.
