Chairman's Annual Report 2020

There is little to report in these strange and unusual times. First there were the floods, then the drought and now the plague. In 2019 successful tours were held in South Africa hosted by Liz Clark and Greece hosted by myself. They were well supported and thoroughly enjoyed. Our meetings were played in good weather and our financial position at year end (29/2/20) remains relatively strong. After our contributions to participating clubs, a surplus of £1685 was achieved during the financial year remaining in line with the Society's goal of break even or marginally better. This policy has enabled us to survive without risk through the pandemic.

Cup Winners 2019

Scratch Cups - David Archibald (Alnmouth) Gillian Curley (Stratford-on-Avon)
Sir Aynsley Bridgland Trophies - Paul Collier (Astbury) Linda Cusack (Camberley Heath)
Handicap Cups - Alan Golbourn (Chelmsford) Gillan Curley (Stratford-on-Avon)
Enjoy Golf Together Trophy - Paul & Yogi Walker (Gog Magog)
King of Morocco & Society Salver - Ian Chamberlain (Frinton) Anna Clark (Belton Park)
Barlow Seniors Trophies - Derek Lyons (Royal Wimbledon) Louise Andrews (West Surrey)

A small financial loss appears inevitable for the 2020-21 year so please pass on details of the Society to like-minded souls as new members are always welcome. Most of our new members come from personal recommendations.

Many of this year's cancelled meetings and tours have already been rearranged for dates during 2021 or 2022. The September meeting in Yorkshire will be the sole survivor from the 2020 itinerary. Places for the rearranged tours to Dublin and Bordeaux/Biarritz are initially being offered to the original participants but if any become available these will be offered to the membership.

GSGB Fixtures 2021

May 12-13 Littlestone/Cooden Beach
June 21-22 Yelverton/St Mellion
July 20-21 Carden Park AGM (Nicklaus & Cheshire)
August 26-27 Alwoodley/Fulford
September 16-17 Blackwell/Edgbaston

The cancelled meetings at Silloth on Solway/Seascale and Cirencester/Tewkesbury Park will be rescheduled during the summer of 2022.

Your committee and, more importantly, our excellent secretary Brian Ward work hard on your behalf to provide meetings and tours for your enjoyment. We sincerely hope that 2021 will provide us with a more ‘normal’ golfing year. I wish you all good health and a safe journey through life. May it contain plenty of (but not too much) good golf and fine wine. Well OK, lots of good golf.

Giles Hinchcliffe,
Chairman.
