The
Golf Society of Great Britain 2015 AGM Meeting took place at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham, on 21st/22nd July. Despite there being no signs of
the sweltering conditions that were encountered in the previous two years, the
weather was in the main more than acceptable for the 80 attendees with a brisk
shower on the second day being the only inconvenience. The two courses are quite
different in character with the flatter Prince Bishops being tree-lined and the
newer Cathedral course being more undulating and open in places. Both courses
offer a stiff test with numerous ponds and bunkers to negotiate. The
accommodation at the Hotel is probably the best encountered so far at the AGM Meeting
and with continued investment the venue can only go from strength to strength.
The Handicap Cups for the best two day aggregate scores were won by Terry Jones (The Warren) with 70 points and Jane Jagger (Shipley) 67 points. Terry and partner, Vanessa Adams with 133 points, claimed the Enjoy Golf Together Trophy by having the best mixed aggregate score over the two days. All prize winners are listed below. As well as the usual prizes there was the annual “beat the pro” competition on the Prince Bishops 7th hole, on which 6 ladies and 6 gents managed to beat the Pro and win a bottle of wine. The winners were Angie Frith, Jan Rowland, Denise Stone, Vivienne Sears, Lyn Ellner, Joyce Storer, David Storer, Robin Moser, Ed Moss, Alan Golbourn, Mark Summers and Terry Jones. Our next Meeting will take place at Frinton & Ipswich on August 27th/28th. The 2015 AGM will return to Foxhills on July 26th/27th.
