The opening fixture of the GSGB's
2015 season heralded a welcome return of the sun after some rather wet weather
in the week prior to the meeting. The courses at Lyme Regis and East Devon are
both situated in beautiful locations and offer glorious cliff top views of the
Dorset and Devon coastline. The 71 members who took part enjoyed very pleasant
playing conditions with no sign of rain on either day. Both courses were in
wonderful condition with good putting surfaces and looked very colourful with the
gorse in full bloom.
At Dinner we were joined by
the Lyme Regis Captain Roger Seed and his wife Leisa.
Roger spoke of the club’s excellent junior section which includes three players
who play off a handicap of 1 or below. Roger is no slouch himself playing off 2
but his son is showing him the way, playing off a handicap of 1. GSGB Chairman Linda Hill then
presented the £500 donation towards the club's junior section.
The Founders Trophy for men was
successfully defended by David Archibald, playing off 5 from East Herts
with 75 points. The ladies Founders Trophy was won by Pat Bennett, playing off 6 from Reading
who scored 70 points. The runners-up prizes were won by Neil
Martin from The Vale with 73 points and our Chairman, Linda Hill from Bath with
70 points. A full list of all prize winners can be seen below.
The next event will be at Bath
/ Kingsdown on June 24/25th.
