Delamere Forest Report June 21st – 22nd 2016
The GSGB June Meeting was held at Sandiway and Delamere Forest Golf Clubs, regarded by most to be the best two inland courses in the Cheshire Golf Union. Seventy two Members competed for the Scratch Cups and handicap prizes, enjoying glorious playing conditions on both days. The courses were both a little softer underfoot than is usual for the time of year due to the heavy rainfall which fell the day before. The greens at Sandiway proved to be a little on the slow side but that was certainly not the case at Delamere where they were running considerably quicker. At Dinner we were joined by the Sandiway Captain Guy Hopley and his partner Denise. Guy received a £500 donation towards the Sandiway junior section and £500 towards the cost of the Junior Masters event from GSGB President, Nigel Dickson. The welcome and food at both clubs could not have been better and a wonderful two days were enjoyed by all.
The Scratch Trophy for men was successfully defended by David Archibald from Alnmouth with 68 points and the ladies Scratch Trophy was won by Gillian Curley from Northamptonshire County who scored 43 points. The best handicap aggregate scores were recorded by Geoff Ogden from Bath with 75 points and Clare Fulton from Woburn with 63. A full list of the prize winners can be seen below.
The next event will be the AGM Meeting at Foxhills on July 26/27th.
