After a rather wet spring, the opening fixture of the 2016 season delivered two beautifully warm days of sunshine and unusually light winds for seaside golf. Both West Lancs and S&A were looking a little greener than usual for the time of year but were in typically great condition. A strong field of 71 members took part and for the most part thoroughly enjoyed playing two of England's finest links courses. Scores would suggest that most players found S&A the more difficult of the two as no-one managed to better their handicap. At Dinner we were joined by the West Lancashire Captain, Dr Anil Sharma and his wife Kiran. Dr Sharma accepted the Society donation to their junior section from GSGB Chairman Robin Moser before speaking about the club’s excellent record with junior development.
The Founders Trophy for men was won by Ronnie Steedman from Northamptonshire County with 68 points. This was Ronnie's first event with the GSGB so he now has a lot to live up to. The ladies Founders Trophy was won by Angela Frith from Bath who scored 68 points. Peter Batchelor from Woburn and Pippa Lyons from Royal Wimbledon were the aggregate runners-up. A full list of all prize winners can be seen below. Southport & Ainsdale Captain Mr David Walker was presented with a GSGB shield as our newest Participating Club and a cheque for £500 for the club's junior section before presenting the prizes.
The next event will be at Sandiway and Delamere Forest on June 21st/22nd.
