The GSGB September Meeting was held in Dorset at Broadstone and the Isle of Purbeck, two of the premier heathland courses in the South of England and both currently ranked in England's Top 100 golf courses. Seventy one members enjoyed two days of very welcome dry weather to finish off another enjoyable season for the Society.
The courses were in good condition with the exception of Broadstone's greens which have been giving the club problems for much of the summer. Both courses are very attractive designs and although not particularly long, offer a stern challenge. Broadstone has excellent bunkering with abundance of firs, bracken and silver birch and Purbeck offers some of the most spectacular views to be found on any course in Britain. At Dinner we were joined by the Broadstone Captain Mark Dowland and his wife Sue. Mark spoke of the club's talented junior section as well as giving us some facts on Broadstone's history. GSGB Chairman Robin Moser presented Mark with a £500 donation towards the club junior section. The men’s Barlow Seniors Trophy was won by Terry Jones from The Warren with 68 points and the runner-up was Robert Hill from Bath with 65 points. The Ladies Trophy was won by Christine Wakefield from Bath who scored 67 points and the runner-up was Sue Devine from Brickendon Grange with 63 points.
