Hornsea/Ganton Report and Results   17th – 18th  September

Following the postponement of all of our earlier meetings during 2020 it was a relief to be able to complete the September event at Hornsea and Ganton. Our previous visit to Ganton had been a rather wet affair, to say the least, so it was particularly enjoyable to get through both days without a single drop of rain. Although a sweater was required by most at Ganton, the golf at Hornsea was played in warm sunshine allowing everyone to enjoy a drink or two on the terrace following their round. Both courses were in excellent condition and the scoring was generally good particularly on the first day. As expected, most didn't fare quite so well at Ganton which is heavily bunkered and a much more difficult layout.

With reduced numbers due to the virus, thirty six members made the socially distanced trip north. Staggered dining was introduced in line with the latest government guidelines but this didn't detract from the quality of  the food at Hornsea which was excellent. Ross Meggison, the Club Captain, joined us for what turned out to be a very enjoyable evening and GSGB Chairman Giles Hinchcliffe presented Ross with the society cheque for £600 to go towards the club Junior Section.

With the loss of the Scratch event earlier in the year the decision was made to add these trophies into the mix along with the Barlow Senior Trophies and the brand new Knight Super Senior Salvers, kindly donated by GSGB and Moor Park member Peter Knight. The men's Scratch event was thrown wide open with many of our low handicappers being unavailable. Giles Hinchcliffe from Sand Moor was the comfortable winner of the men's title with 47 points and Gillian Curley from Stratford-on-Avon retained her title by winning the ladies prize with 43 points.

The men’s Barlow Seniors Trophy was won by Ian Edwards from Woburn with 62 points and the Ladies Trophy was won by Celia Edwards from Northants County who scored 57 points. The Edwards family were obviously practising during lockdown!

The winners of the inaugural Knight Super Senior Salvers were Ben McDyre from Portal and Maureen Pring from Luffenham Heath both with 55 points.

A full list of all prize winners can be seen below.

We sincerely hope that our next planned event, the rearranged  trip to Ireland, will go ahead next April.

We begin our 2021 programme at Littlestone and Cooden Beach on May 12-13th.

The full list of 2021 fixtures can be found within the index on the home page of the website.
