Conwy & North Wales Report   June 12th – 13th   2017

Following the beautiful sunny weather enjoyed in Suffolk at our May meeting, the wind was much more of a factor in June on the coastal links of North Wales. After recent rainfall Conwy and  North Wales were looking a little greener than usual for the time of year but were in good condition throughout. A field of 62 members took part in our first visit to this part of Wales and although playing conditions were challenging, particularly at Conwy, everyone enjoyed playing two of the best links courses in the region. Not surprisingly scores would suggest that most members found Conwy the more difficult of the two as no-one managed to plat to their handicap. At Dinner we were joined by the Conwy Captain, Mr Bill Harrison and his wife Helen. Bill accepted the Society donation of £500 for their junior section and also the Society shield, as a new participating club, from GSGB President Nigel Dickson. The Captain mentioned the club’s pride at being chosen as the venue for the 2020 Curtis Cup and finished off by presenting a copy of the club history to the society.

The Founders Trophy for men was won by past Chairman and President Jim Hunter from Lee-on-the-Solent with 64 points. The ladies Founders Trophy was won by Clare Fulton from Woburn who scored 66 points. Alan Percival from Astbury and Stephanie Moorfoot from Bath were the aggregate runners-up. A full list of all prize winners can be seen below. The next event will be the AGM meeting at Mere in Cheshire on July 10th/11th.
