60 GSGB members made the pilgrimage to Royal St David’s Golf Club in Harlech to compete for the Scratch Cups on the 15th and 16th May.
A blustery wind greeted us on Day 1 as everyone prepared for the tough challenge that lay ahead. Thankfully the rain stayed away and although scoring was difficult everyone enjoyed the challenge of playing one of the top links courses in Britain.
Honorary Life Member Ruth Ferguson was guest of honour at Dinner. Ruth has been a GSGB member for over 50 of her 95 years and during that time she reached the final of the English Ladies Championship, represented England in International matches and had 16 holes in one.
GSGB Chairman Linda Hill spoke at Dinner and presented the Royal St David’s Captain and Lady Captain, Jeff and Gwynfa Taylor, with a cheque for £500 towards the club’s junior section.
Day 2 was played in warm sunshine with no more than a very light breeze. This was reflected in the number of 2’s scored with eight on Day 2 compared to only two on Day 1. Understandably the scoring was better during the second round due to the almost perfect conditions.
The Scratch Cups were won by Tim Russell with an aggregate total of 60 points and Karen Lobb with 57 points. The Handicap aggregate prizes went to Richard Turner with 66 points and Clare Fulton with 72 points. Ruth presented the prizes.
Congratulations to all prize winners. A full list can be seen below.
This was a very enjoyable outing and a great way to start to our 2013 programme.
The next Meeting will take place at Berwick-upon-Tweed and Alnmouth on June 19th/20th.
