The GSGB June Meeting was held on over two of Northumberland’s finest courses – Berwick-upon-Tweed and Alnmouth, Foxton Hall. The 68 Members who took part were greeted with glorious playing conditions on both days with warm sunshine and very little wind on offer.
Berwick is a lovely fast running links course with excellent greens. Designed by James Braid the course has been used for the past 5 years for Regional Open Qualifying. Conditions were ideal for good scoring by both the men and ladies and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course.
At Dinner we were joined by the club Captain David Leslie and his wife Fiona. David was presented with a cheque for £500 to be used by the club’s junior section by GSGB Chairman Linda Hill.
Day 2 was again played in benign conditions which must have helped the 2’s count which totalled 16 over both rounds. Alnmouth is a pretty cliff-top parkland course designed by another well renowned course architect Harry Colt. The wonderful sea views and excellent conditioning meant that the course was again well received.
The King of Morocco Cup was won by Robert Hill from Bath with an aggregate total of 71 points and the Society Salver was won by Vicki Cockcroft from Alwoodley with 72 points. I have been reliably informed that Vivki has received a well earned 2 shot handicap reduction after scoring 41 points at Alnmouth.
Congratulations to all prize winners. A full list can be seen below.
The next event will be the AGM Meeting at Foxhills on July 16th/18th.
